iOS 27 email marketing starts with search. Apple released iOS 27 on September 14, 2026 with a new ranking system in Mail and a beta of Siri AI (Apple Newsroom), which can summarize a message, track a package from it, or clear out everything from one sender. Clear, structured email gets surfaced. Vague email gets skipped.
The fundamentals of a good email stay where they were. The first reader is what changed. For subscribers who turn Siri AI on, an assistant now sits between your send and the person, and it rewards the habits deliverability teams have asked for all along.
Apple Mail search in iOS 27 ranks email by intent
Apple describes "a completely new ranking system in Mail" that surfaces more relevant results in Top Hits (Apple). MacRumors' guide to the release says search now ranks results by relevance and intent, and gives the example of searching a retailer's name and seeing your order before that retailer's marketing emails (MacRumors).
For senders, that turns a transactional email into your most findable asset. Subject lines, sender names and the first lines of body text now have to say plainly what the message is: an order, a booking, a renewal, an invoice. Put reference numbers in live text where search can read them. If your transactional and promotional streams are still tangled together, separating transactional and marketing email is the first fix.
Siri AI turns the inbox into something an assistant can act on
With Siri AI, a subscriber can long-press an email to summarize it, pull out a tracking or flight number, or save an item, and Siri can delete all emails from a specified sender on request (MacRumors). Apple's rollout is gradual. Siri AI launched as a beta in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish due in October. It is not initially available on iPhone in the EU or in China, it requires iPhone 15 Pro or later, and it is subject to daily usage limits (Apple).
The bulk-delete command deserves attention from any team that sends often. A subscriber who is tired of you no longer needs to find the unsubscribe link; one sentence to Siri clears the backlog. The defence is giving people control before they reach for that sentence, and an email preference center is the cheapest way to do it.
Apple Mail categories decide which tab your email lands in
Apple Mail sorts messages into four categories. Apple defines Primary as personal and time-sensitive messages, Transactions as "confirmations, receipts, and shipping notices," Updates as news, newsletters and social updates, and Promotions as "marketing, coupons, and sale messages" (Apple Support). Time-sensitive messages from the other categories also appear in Primary.
A receipt stuffed with a sale banner blurs that line. Gmail's sender guidelines give the same advice in one sentence: "Don't mix different types of content in the same message" (Google). Keep each message to one job, and review the Gmail and Yahoo sender rules while you are at it, because the same hygiene now pays twice.
Branded Mail and DKIM decide how your brand appears in Apple Mail
Branded Mail lets a verified business show its name and logo on emails in Apple Mail on iPhone and in iCloud Mail on the web. Apple's requirements are specific: every email must be authenticated with DKIM, SPF-only authentication is not supported, and review can take up to seven business days (Apple Business User Guide). Branded Mail is managed inside Apple Business, the platform covered in our Apple Business Connect guide.
The same Apple page explains that Apple Wallet uses Apple Intelligence to find order confirmation and shipping emails automatically, and asks senders to include the merchant name, order number and tracking number. That is a direct request for structured, readable transactional email. Senders who meet it get their orders tracked in Wallet. Senders who put the order number only in an image make that job harder.
Email open rates on Apple devices tell you even less after iOS 27
Apple clients account for most measured opens. Litmus, an email testing vendor, attributes 62.26 percent of opens to Apple in its July 2026 market share report, based on more than a billion opens (Litmus). Many of those opens were never human. Apple's Mail Privacy Protection downloads remote content in the background by default, whether or not the subscriber engages with the email (Apple).
iOS 27 adds a second gap: a Siri summary or a Wallet order update can deliver your message's value without a click you can measure. Report on clicks, conversions, revenue per recipient, unsubscribes and complaints, and treat opens as a deliverability signal only. Teams rebuilding measurement around real outcomes often pair it with next-best-action personalization so the next send is chosen by behaviour.
An iOS 27 email checklist for lifecycle teams
Most of the work is housekeeping. Sign every stream with DKIM and register for Branded Mail. Write subject lines and preheaders that describe the content in plain words. Put order numbers, confirmation codes, dates and tracking numbers in live text. Keep receipts free of promotions. Offer a preference center and make unsubscribing easy, because Siri makes leaving easy either way. Apple also added Call Context, which surfaces details such as a confirmation code or reservation number when a customer calls a business (Apple), one more reason to state those details clearly in email.
Automated flows carry the most structured content, so start the audit there; our guide to the abandoned cart email sequence walks through one of the highest-value flows. If you want a lifecycle team to run this audit across your programs, get in touch.
