ChatGPT Intelligent UI, rolling out to all ChatGPT users since October 7, lets answers include charts, forms, buttons and working tools such as calculators, built inside the chat. For B2B websites, generic calculators and explainer pages are now easy for AI to reproduce. Tools built on proprietary data, accounts or integrations remain hard to copy.

That shifts the job of a B2B website tool. For years a free ROI calculator or comparison widget was a dependable reason to click through from search. Now both ChatGPT and Google can generate a serviceable version on demand. Here is what changed this week, what the early research says about quality, and how to decide which of your tools to keep, rebuild or expose to AI agents.

ChatGPT Intelligent UI turns answers into working tools

OpenAI describes Intelligent UI plainly: "responses can include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts, and interactive experiences you can use directly in your conversation" (OpenAI). Users can also ask ChatGPT to build a tool for the task at hand, and OpenAI's own example is "a calculator to explore how savings could grow." Under the hood, the model assembles answers from a library of native components that a compiler renders as the response streams.

The reach is the reason to pay attention. OpenAI brought its first GPT-6 models to paid customers in September. Intelligent UI began rolling out to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users on October 7 and to Free and Go users the following day, and OpenAI says more than 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT every week (OpenAI). That figure is OpenAI's own. Even a fraction of those users asking for a payback calculator or a vendor comparison changes where that interaction happens.

Generative UI is reaching Google AI Mode and AI Overviews too

Google got there first in search. Its research team introduced generative UI in November 2025 and said it was "rolling out in the Gemini app and Google Search, starting with AI Mode" (Google Research). In August 2026, Search Engine Journal reported that generated interfaces were being introduced to AI Overviews as well (Search Engine Journal).

So the change is broader than one chatbot. Both of the places B2B buyers start research can now answer with an interactive tool before anyone sees a blue link. Clicks were already lower when AI summaries appeared: Pew found users clicked a traditional result in 8 percent of visits with an AI summary, against 15 percent without one (Pew Research Center). We covered where the remaining clicks come from in our guide to zero-click search.

The B2B website tools most exposed to generative UI

Generic tools are the most exposed. Search Engine Journal's analysis put it bluntly: "The easiest tools for generative UI to reproduce involve taking generic inputs and running public math" (Search Engine Journal). A mortgage-style payback calculator, a unit converter, a simple ROI estimator built on industry averages and a feature checklist all fit that description.

Tools that depend on something the model cannot see are much safer. Pricing configurators tied to your real rate card, benchmarks drawn from your own customer data, assessments that save results to an account, and integrations that pull a prospect's live data all sit behind information ChatGPT does not have. If a tool page was earning leads on convenience alone, assume its traffic will thin out. Our Search Console AI performance guide shows how to watch for that shift page by page.

Expert-built pages still beat generative UI in Google's own study

The early quality research cuts both ways, and it favors expert-built websites. In a Google Research paper on its generative UI system, raters preferred the generated interface over the top search result in 90 percent of head-to-head comparisons, yet the authors report the generated results "are worse than those crafted by human experts" while being "at least comparable in 50% of cases" (arXiv). Google graded its own system in a lab setting, so read the numbers as directional.

One detail in the method matters for website owners. The expert sites in that comparison were commissioned from contractors offered between $100 and $130 per website. Generic pages lose to generated answers; a well-built page still holds its ground. A B2B tool designed around a real buying decision, with your data and a clear next step, sits well above that bar. The lesson is to invest in the few tools that carry real expertise and retire the thin ones, which also helps the conversion problems that generic widgets rarely solved.

Putting your own tool inside ChatGPT and other AI interfaces

The other response is to meet users inside the answer. At DevDay on September 29, OpenAI introduced plugin extensions that give a plugin "a home in the sidebar" with interactive panels next to the conversation (OpenAI). The Model Context Protocol's 2026-07-28 specification release adds "server-rendered UIs through MCP Apps" (MCP blog), and our plain-English MCP guide explains how those servers connect your systems to AI assistants.

On the open web, Chrome's WebMCP origin trial lets a site declare what its buttons and forms do so an agent can call them directly (Chrome for Developers). For a B2B team the practical order is: keep the tool on your site, describe it in structured form, then expose its core function through MCP or WebMCP once it proves useful. The WebMCP walkthrough covers the markup.

A generative UI audit for your B2B website tools

Run a short audit before the next planning cycle. List every calculator, configurator, template and comparison page. Mark each one by what it depends on: public math, your proprietary data, a logged-in state or a live integration. Pull 12 months of entrances and assisted conversions for each, so you know which tools earn pipeline.

Then sort them into three groups. Retire or merge generic tools that AI can already generate. Rebuild the valuable ones around data only you hold. Expose the strongest one to AI agents as a pilot. If the rebuild changes URLs, follow our website migration SEO checklist so existing rankings carry over. If you want help scoping the audit, get in touch.
